C97 - Stratotanker/freighter

[Home] [Feedback] [FAQ] [Glossary]

Manufacturer: Boeing
Year: 1944
Role: Air Tanker/Transport
Quantity: 800+
Origin: USA
Recipients: USAAC, USAF

This monster comes in two flavors as best I can tell. An air tanker version and freighter version. The freighter served throughout the 50s and the air tanker a little longer.

I'd guess and say they're both are upgraded remodeled and heavily extended B29s.

I've managed to document several models, all are static displays.

Recognition Tip:
Looks like a B29 with the upgraded B50 tail and engines with some kind of thyroid problem. Several model, not sure what this model is or how to tell, but I will be researching further.
